Les Hirondelles
This stunning area situated in the National Parc du Mercantour is truly spectacular, surrounded by high mountains and verdant valleys. With, on average, 300 days sunshine a year, opportunities for relaxation, exploration or participation are plenty. Visits to the Grand Canyon du Verdon or Lac d’Allos are essential and in winter enjoy over 400 km of slopes to suit every level, as well as an excellent ESF ski school. The choice is yours.
Les Hirondelles sits on the side of a mountain within the Mercantour National Park, with spectacular views of the surrounding mountains and down the valley from the balcony that runs along the length of the house. Situated within the commune of Clignon Bas, the small settlement is just ten minutes from the historic medieval walled town of Colmars les Alpes, where you can lap up the atmosphere of the summer twice weekly Provencal market, eat in a local restaurant or just wander its ancient, narrow cobbled streets. Colmars provides all the much needed amenities you’ll need whatever the time of year, including a supermarket and cashpoint. The village of Allos is just ten minutes further up the valley with yet another large supermarket. Just two hours by car from Nice Airport, Les Hirondelles is fully equipped with everything to make your holiday comfortable. This is a typical small mountain property, with no delusions of grandeur, but rather the delivery of a warm hug and homely feel. With WiFi and access to several UK TV iPlayer channels and Netflix, over 70 DVDs, books and board games, a winters night, snuggling in front of the log fire, will provide the perfect end to a day’s skiing or a bracing walk. In summer, use the BBQ and sit outside on the balcony or at the six-person table at the side of the house, enjoying the warmth and food while watching the sun gently slide behind the mountain tops. The property will suit anyone looking for peace and quiet, but with easy access to a host of activities within our valley and further afield. The house is not isolated, being close to respectful and very friendly French neighbours, who may invite you to join them for an aperitif if you fancy it, though this isn’t compulsory! If skiing is your thing, there is room to store your skis in the outer lobby. The ski slopes are just thirty minutes from Les Hirondelles, providing over 400 km of slopes, the biggest area in the southern Alpes. The house has central heating provided by electric radiators and a large closed in log fire.

Dogs – Our 4-legged friends are part of the family and can join you on your holiday. We will love the opportunity for walks in the mountains, swimming in the lakes or paddling in the shallows. If wintertime, then most dogs love playing in the snow!! These are images, starring past and present members of our family, Maxwell, Maisie and Teddy, doing just that! We have a limit on one or two medium sized, well behaved pooches, up to approximately 14 kg. We provide dog bowls and doggie poo bags. We do charge for dogs and there are a few reasonable rules that your dog(s) will have to adhere to.
