Area Description:

Marou is located in The Périgord Noir district of Dordogne, famous for its world-renowned vineyards, St-Emilion and Monbazillac. Other culinary delights include black truffles and foie gras.
The Périgord Noir’s rich history includes some of the most famous prehistoric cave art in the world, well-preserved medieval bastides and historic châteaux. This combination of culture, history, and gastronomy makes The Périgord Noir one of France’s most beloved scenic regions.
A 5-minute drive from Marou is the 13th-century bastide of Villefranche-du-Périgord, offering restaurants, bakeries and shopping along cobblestone lanes. The town also offers cinemas, tennis courts, and more.
The area is home to many outdoor countryside markets, held weekly in town squares, with the Friday market in Prayssac being one of the largest. Villefranche-du-Périgord markets specialise in wild mushrooms in June – October, and a Chestnut market on Saturdays in September & October.
Sports enthusiasts can enjoy water sports on the river Dordogne just 30 minutes north, as well as golf, tennis, horse riding and more.

Accommodation at Marou is organised on three stories, with the master bedroom on the ground floor, 2 additional bedrooms on the top floor, and the living spaces in between.

On the ground floor, there is

  • A well-equipped kitchen with a gas oven, induction hob, small fridge/freezer, dishwasher, washing machine, and microwave. The kitchen offers plenty of cupboard space, ample crockery, and small appliances such as a kettle and toaster. *There is a larger fridge in the adjacent barn. A set of doors from the kitchen lead to
  • A very spacious master bedroom, furnished with a double bed, wardrobe, cupboard and an armchair. From this bedroom, doors open onto the terrace in front of the pool.
  • A walk-in shower with rainforest showerhead, basin and WC. The ground floor is tiled throughout.

Up the stairs from the kitchen, on the first floor, there is:

  • A large open living space featuring beautiful exposed beams, stone walls and hardwood floors. From its shuttered windows there are panoramic views over the valley.
  • On one side, a spacious dining area features a large traditional wooden table for six guests. Adjacent to it, comfortable seating is arranged around a wood-burning stove, complemented by bookcases filled with reading material, a stereo, a wide selection of CDs, and board games. There is a large TV offering Netflix and Amazon Prime.

On the second floor, there are:

  • Two twin bedrooms, each with sloping ceilings and Velux windows that fill the rooms with natural light.
  • This floor also includes a bathroom with a bathtub, basin, and WC.

Set within a quarter-acre of grounds, there is a lawned garden with views of surrounding woods and fields. A large patio with a pergola offers a relaxing spot under the vines. There is a quality dining table and comfortable chairs, as well as a charcoal barbecue. Extra chairs and cushions are available in the barn.

The private pool measures 10 x 5m (lightly salted, which is beneficial for those with skin allergies) and has a convenient electric cover for safety. It has integral corner steps for entry, a gently sloping bottom, and pool lights that make for ideal evening ambiance. Its paved surround includes sun loungers, umbrellas, and additional chairs and tables.

The property is equipped with good Wi-Fi, with fibre optic coming soon. There is ample parking available in the private drive.
