Marou is located in The Périgord Noir district of Dordogne, famous for its world-renowned vineyards, St-Emilion and Monbazillac. Other culinary delights include black truffles and foie gras.
The Périgord Noir’s rich history includes some of the most famous prehistoric cave art in the world, well-preserved medieval bastides and historic châteaux. This combination of culture, history, and gastronomy makes The Périgord Noir one of France’s most beloved scenic regions.
A 5-minute drive from Marou is the 13th-century bastide of Villefranche-du-Périgord, offering restaurants, bakeries and shopping along cobblestone lanes. The town also offers cinemas, tennis courts, and more.
The area is home to many outdoor countryside markets, held weekly in town squares, with the Friday market in Prayssac being one of the largest. Villefranche-du-Périgord markets specialise in wild mushrooms in June – October, and a Chestnut market on Saturdays in September & October.
Sports enthusiasts can enjoy water sports on the river Dordogne just 30 minutes north, as well as golf, tennis, horse riding and more.
